CHARLES L MILLER AWARD
WACUHO is proud to announce that Dr. Cindy Derrico, PhD, is the recipient of the Charles L Miller Award for 2021. Cindy Derrico serves as the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs - Campus Life | Dean of Students, Division of Student Affairs at California State University Channel Islands.
Cindy Derrico has been a key contributor in WACUHO for over 3 decades. She has filled a variety of roles over the years, beginning as a member of the Southern RAP Committee in 1986, when Charles L Miller was Vice-President for WACUHO. Cindy’s committee involvement includes, both as a member and chair: Southern RAP, Host, Substance Abuse, New Professionals, Western Training Institute, Awards and Recognition, Nominations, Past President and Finance Advisory Committee. More recently, she served as a Scholar for the 2010 Western Training Institute as well as several terms on the Executive Committee as Treasurer, President-Elect and President. In 2018, Cindy was awarded the JB Brock Spirit of WACUHO Award and, in 2020, Cindy was awarded the ACUHO-I Hero Award. Throughout her tenure in WACUHO, Cindy has the unique ability to lead from both front and center and from behind the scenes as a careful listener, dedicated supporter and contributor to WACUHO’s success.
The Charles L Miller Award is named in memory of Mr. Charles L. Miller, the 30th President of the Association. Throughout his career, Charles L. Miller, better known as "Charlie," exemplified the highest level of dedication to our profession, provided outstanding leadership and role modeling for seasoned veterans and new professionals alike and was known for his tremendous sense of humor.
